Entry1_ Lương Thị Thanh Huế

Entry 1_ Lương Thị Thanh Huế

Item 1: The value of money

Money can buy a bed, but not sleep

Money can buy a book, but not a brain

Money can buy medicine, but not health

Money can buy food, but not appetite

Money can buy cosmetics, but not beauty

Money can buy luxuries, but not culture

Money can buy a house, but not happiness

Money can buy church, but not god.

Rhetorical devices:

Parallelism: a bed – sleep; a book – a brain; medicine – health; …

Repetition: money; can buy; not.

Antithesis: can – can not.

Message:

Money is not everything. It is simply a means to an end. Therefore, we should not depend on money too much.

Item 2: Haste makes Waste.

A woman had a pet mongoose. It was very faithful. One day she went to the market, leaving her baby in the care of the mongoose. At that time a big cobra entered the house. The mongoose killed it after a long and fierce fight. When the woman came back she saw the mongoose lying at the entrance. She noticed its blood-covered mouth. In her haste the woman thought that the mongoose had killed her baby. In a moment of sudden fury, the woman threw the water pot on the mongoose and killed it. Alas! When she entered the house she was filled with remorse. Her baby was playing cheerfully. Nearby a big cobra lay dead. The woman shed tears of grief fondling the carcass of the mongoose.

Rhetorical devices:

Climax: She noticed its blood-covered mouth. In her haste the woman thought that the mongoose had killed her baby. In a moment of sudden fury, the woman threw the water pot on the mongoose and killed it. Alas! When she entered the house she was filled with remorse. Her baby was playing cheerfully. Nearby a big cobra lay dead.

Message:

We had better not act in haste because sometimes ‘‘haste makes waste’’. We must think carefully and reasonably about the subjects, the problems,… before we decide to act

Item 3: Image

Rhetorical:

Overstatement: The earth is burning

Metaphor: the man: the human beings, the trees: the forest, the axe: the deforestation, the red: the global warming, the green: the balance of the earth, the wood: the equipment that made from wood.

Message:

Human beings are facing the global warming because we have deforested too much to produce a lot of wood equipment. However, we are still comfortable and indifferent. To save our earth from the global warming, the government must have many effective methods to ban some people on deforesting.

6 nhận xét:

  1. Item 3: metaphor:The dark left side of the picture-death, the bright right side of the picture-life
Irony:the attitude of the man (walk and sing)

  2. I agree with Trang in her comment, I think the red part is the warming global part, the green part is the safe part. The term also bring the message "The more trees you cut down, the more gallows you build up"
Term 2: You should observe and think carefully before doing anything, if not, you will make mistakes and be remorsed

  3. Overall, your entry is good and I can catch almost all of the message,hi. i also share same ideas with Trang.but something I am still confuse, on the sky there is a 2 different colors. so,what do u think?hihi

  4. I like your entry very much, especially Item 2 because i'm a bad-tempered person; so your story is really a warning for me. 2 other items are good. But personally, I don't think bed-sleep, book-brain...is parallel. And in the pictrue, the man represents human being. I think it is metonymy.
Anyway, i still see your investigation in doing this entry.

  5. Here are my comments:
    Item 1:
I share the same point with Cuc that there is no parallelism in the first item.
    Repetition: Money can buy...but not...
Item 2: A noteworthy lesson! I like it very mcuh.
    Item 3:
    Metaphor:
+the tree which is cut down - deforested forests
+The axe - the cause of deforestation
Message: People have deforested so much, which is one of the main causes of global warming. However, people seem not to be interested in this issue.

  6. I really like your entry, especially, the story in the second item. it is a big lesson for all of us.
