http://www.internationalfriendsinchrist.com/usa-map.htm

Type of bias: Stereotype

Analysis
Both two pictures are USA map; however, the first one is stereotype map and the second is geolygical one. From them, we can draw some popular sterotypes among States of American.
For instance:
- When people think of California, they usually dream of life of the party
- In Texas, the sentence "Yes sir/ Yes madam" is familiar
- Wyoming is well-known  for cowboys while Colorado is famous for snow
- Etc.
This stereotype is partly good for foreign tourists who want to know more information and have an overview image about USA

Item 2: Article
Both 2 following pictures are extracted from an article on the website of "Giao Xu Thai Ha" (3.11.2011)

Type of bias:
- Prejudice
- Assumption
- Scapegoating

Analysis:
- Picture 1:
The writer uses emotive language such as" xong vao doi danh", "uy hiep"
Besides, the image in the picture and the information following are not matched :
+ In the picture: Most of them are old, middle age and 2 of them are young smiling girl
+ On the article : they are called "dau gau"
- Picture 2:
+ The writer makes a connection between "Nhom con do" and " (duoi su ho tro cua) luc luong chuc nang" to point out that Vietnamese government supports wrong actions while people of "giao xu Thai Ha" only rationally react

+ he (she) still uses emotive language :
" luc luong"         ->   giao dan
"nhom con do"   ->   people who protest giao xu Thai Ha
+ The source of information is omited so that it not clear and untrustful, for example "Theo thong tin chung toi nhan duoc", "Theo nguon tin dang tin cay nay"
There is a hidden comparison between " luc luong giao dan toi rat dong" ~ "nhom con do bat dau giai tan"
All of these sentences  lead readers to the misunderstanding that

  1. Wow!this is very interstig entry. I like all your item, especially the third one. It is very funny and meaningful. It is an educational cartoon which help both children and adult aware of the racial discrimination nowaday. Item 2 also has careful analysis. Good job!

  2. Dear Ha,
I gree with Van Anh on her comment. I think your entry is prepared carefully. It is interesting and meaningful, especially the third item. However, to my mind, there are prejudice and scapegoating, not asumption in the second item.
    Best wish,

  3. I truly love your entry. It may be the most interesting entry amid many others.
However, in the 2nd item, you should let us know exactly where prejudice is, where assumption is, and where scapegoating is. Your analysis is quite good, but this will make it easy to follow.
