              Identifying bias

Item 1: Bias in research

Analysis: The conclusion is inferred from unclear and unrelated information. Firstly, he doesn’t mention to the amount of cats on his experiment. However, he results in the percentage of the cats affected by this experiment. Secondly, he just experiments on the she-cat, but then he comes to conclusion for the entire cat. This is a bias conclusion.

Item 2:  Bias in advertising

Ø Discrimination

Analysis: Clearly, the woman in the advertisement has racial discrimination with the black man. Though the man tries to climb up the high-tension pole to take the balloon down for the little girl, she scolds soundly to the man and carries the child away. She doesn’t want the man to come near the child because he is a black man. Actually, in many regions in the world, there is racial discrimination toward the black. People treat the black badly and keep away from them.

Item3: Media bias

Ø Stereotype

Analysis:  There are many men in this picture. They have different jobs like football player, kick boxer, businessman, skateboarder, profession,   etc ; however, none of them are nurses. For majority of people think that only the women work as nurses.  This picture implicates that the man who wants to be a nurse is not man enough. Therefore, this is indeed a stereotype.

  1. hi Van Anh!
In my opinion, your entry is good because you chose very interesting items and analyzed them quite carefully.
    - Item 1 and 2 are impressive. One is funny and the other is moving. I agree with your analyses.
    - Item 3: I agree that the picture shows the stereotype that nursing is for women, not for men. However, i think you misunderstood something. Actually, all of the men in this picture are nurses (you can see it clearly in the original one). I think this picture's aim is to eliminate that stereotype because it encourages men's interests in nursing profession.

  2. From my point of view, youe entry is quite good. All the three items are very interesting, and you analyse carefully.Among them,I like item 2 most.I am very impressed at the black man who are very helful.Besides,I am very sympathetic for him because he is disregarded by the girl'mother.
However,in the first item, the writer gives an information is that 15 cats give births after seeing the picture,it is nonsense.

  4. I totally gree with Thư
Item 1 and 2 are quite good.
In item 3, I'm with u that the bias here is stereotype, but all the manly guys are nurses. The picture's purpose is to encourage men to accept nurses as their professions.
