Item 1:
- Type of bias: DISCRIMINATION
- Analysis: This picture describes a job interview in which the person who applies for the job is a woman; and the result is that the boss refuses her application just because she is a woman. This is emphasized in his saying “you are simply not the right man”. He implies that this job needs men, not women. In fact, though women has gained the equal right since the Women revolution, there still exists gender discrimination everywhere especially in the workplace. It is the prejudice that women are weaker or less intelligent than men, so women are usually rejected to get jobs regardless of their abilities. The same case happens in this situation; and this is discrimination because of the prejudice in action.

Black youths blamed for most mobile phone thefts
By Philip Johnston, Home Affairs Editor and Becky Barrow
BLACK youths, often operating in gangs, are behind the huge rise in mobile phone thefts in inner cities, according to research.
They are responsible for the “overwhelming majority” of robberies and most of their victims are white, a Home Office study said yesterday.
In London, where eight per cent of the population aged over 10 is black, about 70 per cent of those accused of stealing mobile phones last year were black. White youths were the victims in the vast majority of cases, followed by Asian youths.
In Birmingham, 54 per cent of the robbers were black, 34 per cent Asian and nine per cent white. The victims were 79 per cent white, 23 per cent Asian and six per cent black.
In Bristol, 63 per cent of suspects were black, 31 per cent white and three per cent Asian. Ninety-two per cent of the victims were white.
- Type of bias: Discrimination and scapegoating
- Analysis:
In fact, not all black youths are thieves but people still see black youths and white ones in different eyes. Black youths “are responsible for the “overwhelming majority” of robberies”, “… are accused of stealing mobile phones”, “White youths were victims in the vast majority of cases”. This is a clear case of discrimination against Black Youths. It seems that every crime involving Black Youths and they have to take responsibility for those crimes. Besides, there is actually no concrete and exact evidence showing that Black youths are mobile phone thieves, so there is scapegoating in this situation.

Item 3:
- Type of bias: Prejudice.
- Analysis: The man in the picture is captured because the Libya police thought that he is a murder. In fact, it is thought that black people often behave worse and are more likely to commit crime than any other race. That’s why the man who is just one of the refugees was arrested without evidence.

Hi Huong,
Trả lờiXóaIn my opinion, your entry is quite good and interesting.
The first item: very good analysis.
However, in item 3, I think it is discrimination, not just prejudice, because the black man is captured and treated badly by the white (prejudice in action). ^^
From my point of view:
Trả lờiXóaYour entry is quite good with sufficient analysis.
In Item 3: I think there is discrimination, because you can see in this picture, a black man was captured, pointed a gun and treated badly by the white men,
Thank for your entry!
