Item 1: Bias on Visual Media
1. Type of bias: Prejudice
2. Analysis:
The picture shows that men can do everything but cook – that’s what their wives are for. This expresses a negative attitude toward cooking which only women must be responsible for.
Item 2: Bias on survey

| Theo kết quả cuộc điều tra về chất lượng cuộc sống tại 183 quốc gia do Tạp chí The Economist (Anh) thực hiện, Na Uy được đánh giá là đất nước đứng đầu bảng xếp hạng. Sau Na Uy, Iceland và Australia lần lượt chiếm vị trí thứ 2 và 3. Chiếm đa số trong danh sách 20 quốc gia có chất lượng cuộc sống tốt nhất thế giới là những nước thuộc châu Âu trong khi Nhật Bản là quốc gia châu Á duy nhất lọt vào top 10. Tiêu chí để đánh giá chất lượng cuộc sống của một nước dựa trên bảng chỉ số phát triển con người của Liên Hợp Quốc, chuyên theo dõi tỉ lệ mù chữ ở người lớn, tuổi thọ trung bình và mức thu thập. Bên cạnh những nhân tố xếp hạng truyền thống như kinh tế, an ninh, tỉ lệ thất nghiệp, còn có những nhân tố khác như việc áp dụng các biện pháp tránh thai, sức khoẻ của trẻ em, tỉ lệ tội phạm, tử hình. |
1. Type of bias: Bias as assumption (Bias due to the failure in reflecting the complexity of life).
2. Analysis:
According to the article, the research shows that Norway is the country with the best quality of life in the world. However, the survey is conducted in 183 countries while there are over 200 countries in the world. Moreover, the evaluation criteria of this survey are not enough to make conclusion such as environment or people’s satisfaction level of life and so on. Besides, in Norway, there are some regions which are not qualified for the above standards.
Item 3: Bias on idiom
‘‘Like father, like son’’ (Cha nào con đấy)
1. Type of bias: Stereotype
2. Analysis:
The idiom reflects a mental image of a group based on opinion without regard to individual differences. According to this idiom, the person whose father is a bad person will become a bad person like his father and back again

Trả lờiXóahihi. I agree with you that it is very difficult. I feel confused and I don't know how to start. You entry are nice, but I think in item 1, the duty of women is housework not only cooking. Cooking only presents for housework :):):)

The advertisement shows a man and his wife in a kitchen with the man wearing a suit as if he is going off to work. The wife is shown in a submissive posture wearing a chef’s hat. This advertisement while meaning to sell a kitchen mixer, is devaluing women as a whole and supports the stereotype that all women can do is stay at home and cook for their husbands.
Stereotype
In the 2nd item, I think these evaluation criteria given in this survey are enough to make conclusion. So there is not bias in this research.
In the 3rd item, this idiom is not type of stereotype. I think it belongs to assumption because this conclusion bases on limited knowledge of the facts.

Trả lờiXóaI agree with Thuy that there is no bias in the research analysed in the second item. The criteria as well as the quantity are sufficient enough to reach the conclusion.
