Entry3_ Nguyễn Thị Xuyến

Identify Bias
Item 1:

- Discrimination
- Analysis: Nam Dinh suppose that in private universities, the qualities of training is not as good as public school. It is not equal for the students who graduated from private school to find job as authorities in Nam Dinh provinece.

Item 2:
- Discrimination
- Analysis:
they said that  " we do not discriminate on the basis of race, age, sex or religion. students simply must be able afford $ 20,000 tuition per year.." it can be said that they are discriminating the students because only students who are able to afford $ 20,000 per year will be accept. what about the student who can not afford $20,000 per year?.
Item 3:

 -
- assumption
- analysis:
the professor Nguyen Minh Hac supposed that the book " Sat Thu Dau Mung Mu" is not suitable and not good for the youth in Viet Nam and it also effects on our languages- Vietnamese . But, I think that it not true, because this book is from everyday languages of Vietnamese, especially teenagers. the influences do not come from this book, they have source from day-life. If we see it as a book for entertainment, it will be different.

  1. I have some comments for your entry
In the 1st item, I agree with your conclusion. However, I think you should analyze it more clearly. Nam Dinh supposes that training quality’ private universities are not as good as public universities (prejudice). Therefore, they did not select the students graduated from private universities. This is a prejudice in action, and it should be discrimination
In the 2nd item, I think that it is not discrimination. “Students simply must be able afford $ 20,000 tuition per year.” I think this is a requirement for students who want to enter this school.
I agree with you in the 3rd item
I hope it will be useful for your entry. ^_^ good luck!

  2. Hi Xuyen:D
Firstly, I agree with Thuy comments on item 1&2; however I have another idea on the last one.
PersonalIy, think it does not exist bias on item 3 because it is a true fact that the clariry of Vietnamese is losing day by day. It is time the whole society raised their voice to preserve Vietnamese
You said that: "If we see it as a book for entertainment, it will be different". As for me, under any circumstance, the book with tittle above should be banned to publish widely because it makes readers tend to use the words like this.

  4. dear Xuyen. I want to share some comment.
first, it would be better if you highlighted the clues to make bias clear.
item 2: can you make it clearer about the kind of this discrimination?
they said "we do not discriminate on the basis of race, age, sex or religion' but they discriminate about rich and poor "students simply must be able afford $ 20,000 tuition per year".
item 3: i support the decision that " sát thủ đầu mưng mủ" should be banned. i don't think it is assumption here because two reasons.
first, although the book was written based on the language of the young which so-called @ language, it is not accepted totally by all people.
second, you said it is only for entertainment; however, you forgot that entertainment have a big influence the young.

  5. i agree with Sang and ly. in the item 3, there is no assumption. Although banning this book is a controversial issue, this book broke publish law, so it is right to ban this book.
